Mellott – Clifford Higbee, 88 of Rt 1, Wingate died at 6:12 p.m. Tuesday in the Lane House Nursing Home in Crawfordsville.  Mr. Higbee had farmed in the Wingate area from 1920-1958 when he retired. He lived in Waynetown from 1954-1972 and then moved back to his farm.  He was a member of the Mellott United Church of Christ and the Montgomery County Farm Bureau. Born April 11, 1897, near Waynetown he was the son of Charles and Josephine Higbee. On Oct 24, 1917 he married Lora Dads who died Feb 22, 1977.  Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. James (Deloris) Hopkins of near Mellott; four grandchildren, James M. Hopkins of Crawfordsville; Dennis Hopkins, Mrs. David (Judy) Frazier and Kathy Verhey all of near Mellott; 8 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Two brothers and two sisters are deceased. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Thomas Funeral Home at Waynetown with the Rev. William Chapman officiating.  Burial will be in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Thursday. – kbz
